Do you believe that Apple’s in-house ad network leads to a poor UX?

I was reading an article in Apple News, and was served this ad.

I’ve granted Apple additional access to my data for advertising purposes, yet this is the best they can offer? As a young adult—which Apple surely knows—I’m baffled by the constant barrage of irrelevant “boomer bait” ads.

I suppose this is what happens when Apple works with an “AI-powered” advertising distributor while their preferred data collection (Apple’s) is designed to be non-traceable back to the user.

It's particularly frustrating because I subscribe to News+ via Apple One. Although I understand that ads are a natural part of articles in an aggregator—much like how ads are in magazines—I expected the ads to be of higher quality and more accurately matched to my interests, especially given the additional data access allowed for advertising purposes.

It’s baffling how much criticism Appier gets for serving low-quality bait, yet Apple still chose to partner with them.

I remember when Apple seemed deeply committed to its brand image and a flawless UX. Now but not limited to this, it feels like that focus has diminished. I can’t entirely blame them, though—the system rewards companies that succeed as hard as Apple, to the point of complacency. When your whole company is #1 by market share and #4 by sales (behind Walmart, Amazon, and UnitedHealth Group), why invest extra in something that most people will forget about in minutes?

I guess I just wish Apple would prioritize UX again, rather than primarily catering to investors and shareholders.

Here’s some more piss poor ads but this time they’re AI generated.
