Going through Google Finance, it was fascinating to see the history of Apple's share prices on the NASDAQ and I was interested in seeing the days where the highest volume of shares had been traded. Here's the list of days of 100+ million share trades:

1: September 29, 2000 - 265,058,600 - Open $14.09 Close $12.88
This was on the back of an announcement made by Apple saying they expect their September quarter results to be a lot weaker than predicted due to the whole computer industry slowing down at that time. What is more startling is that Apple's share price had closed the day before on September 28 at $26.25 -that's almost half of the value of Apple being wiped off the market overnight.
2: August 6, 1997 - 149,660,000 - Open $6.31 Close $6.58
3: August 7, 1997 - 134,122,800 - Open $7.19 Close $7.30
These were on the back of Apple announcing their new Board of Directors, which included Steve Jobs. On top of that, in late July, Apple release Mac OS 8 and had been selling at 4 times their predicted rate.
4: January 23, 2008 - 120,463,200 - Open $136.19 Close $139.07
This was during the beginning of the current financial crisis during a particularly bad run on the world's markets. Still, Apple defied the trend on this day.
5: September 21, 1999 - 119,912,800 - Open $18.30 Close $17.31
I'm not sure about this one, but it was around the time of the original iBook starting to ship.
6: January 9, 2007 - 119,617,800 - Open $86.45 Close $92.57
This occured after the introduction of the iPhone at Macworld San Francisco 2007 on the same date.
7: January 13, 2005 - 113,025,600 - Open $36.86 Close $34.90
Two days after Macworld San Francisco 2005 where the iPod shuffle was introduced.
8: January 10, 2007 - 105,460,000 - Open $94.75 Close $97.00
This was the day after the introduction of the iPhone at Macworld San Francisco 2007.

Other notable mentions:
- October 12, 2005 - 96,338,800: The video iPod and TV shows on iTunes were introduced at an Apple Special Event.
- April 6, 2006 - 95,134,600: Boot Camp was released the day before where it allowed Windows to run on a Mac.
