Best Buy today has Apple's 256GB 13-inch M2 MacBook Air for $799.00, down from $999.00. You'll find all four colors on sale at this price, including Midnight, Silver, Space Gray, and Starlight.

Compared to previous sales, this is a match of the all-time low price on the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air. Right now, only Best Buy has this steep discount, and we aren't tracking any notable deals on the 512GB model.

Although there are now updated M3 MacBook Air computers, Apple does still sell the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air as an entry-level option. The model on sale today features an 8-core CPU, 8-core GPU, and 8GB RAM, and it should work perfectly for anyone looking for a reliable machine to do basic daily tasks.

$799 is definitely a great starting price for someone looking to get the refreshed design but doesn’t necessarily need the latest M3 chip

Anyone in the market for a MacBook Air now has this as an option or the M1 as an alternative for $649 from Walmart:

You know, all these sales deals and the long tail of availability of earlier M-series MacBook Airs make me wonder whether Apple internally projected selling more of these machines and just bought in too much stock.

Apple silicon seems to have boosted the market share of the Mac by only a small amount, and that must be disappointing to management at Apple.

Or you can take it as evidence that the base-model Macs can't usefully run the new AI hotness. So they have to go while Apple can still get something for them.

Get 'em while they're hot! Reminds me of walking through a carnival being enticed by the game operators. Should you buy now or wait for whatever new model is next around the corner?

Which if the 8gb of ram rumor is to be believed (which is why only certain iPhones get it), that is bs. But I am sure apple will keep it from running on their base models to upsell just like with the iPhones.

I'm not really sure the expectation was that moving to Apple silicon would greatly expand the Mac's marketshare. The real benefit is that now all of their primary "computer" products (Mac, iPad, iPhone) are using the same family of chips which makes integrating everything a lot easier.

I was definitely at the right place at the right time. I just picked up a very gently used 13" 8/256 M2 in midnight with the box for $600. Still has AppleCare+ for another 2 years. I am heading to the AppleStore with the previous owner to get it transferred to me after work today. I plan to use it for a back to school laptop.

The model in the post seems to be a good deal for this kind of workload.
