I continually get error messages saying that I need to enter the email password, or the server can't connect, or whatever else stands in the way of a smooth email - wifi relationship.

Are there some settngs I can change in Mail, or wherever, to remedy these problems?

I have no problem using Mail and Spectrum internet. What mail service are you trying to use?

Apple's Mail version 12.4 through Spectrum's (formerly Time Warner Cable's) RoadRunner service.

Go to Mail > Accounts and verify that all the password boxes have entries. To be safe, can re-enter the password into the password fields, just to be sure.

Try deleting the account and re-adding.

Quit mail, then can go into Keychain and search for entries that are named "imap" or "smtp". Delete those associated with the troublesome email account, bring up Mail, and will be prompted to re-enter your passcodes. Or while in Keychain, make sure the passwords in the smtp and imap entries are the correct password.

I tried doing the actions in NoBoMac's first paragraph. The password I've always used isn't "verifiable" so I'm stuck there.

I don't dare delete and re-add the account as it currently works...sometimes....

I know nothiing about the keychain and its impact on this issue, so I'm leaving that alone.

Is this still a Pop3 account? I know my (now ancient) Hot.rr.com address is set up as a pop3 account. I am able to get mail when I'm away from home, but in order to send mail I have to be at home using my home (Spectrum) internet. Is that possible the issue?

Currently my Mail/Spectrum issue is so screwed up that I can't use my Mail password to get to the Account information to answer your ?. I'm planning on getting after Spectrum Support in the next days as I'm out of town at the moment.

Thanks for your reply!

You know that your user name and password work because you can login to webmail. So just delete the account from Mail and set it up from scratch. Directions below.

I have been experience regular requests to re-sign in to email and enter a password. That is, it takes you to the "mail preferences set-up" screen to re-enter the password there. I know with all the system OS updates recently it may not be Spectrum specific. It is annoying for sure, however I'll just hope it's there for my protection.

I believe I've smothed out the issues I was dealing with earlier. After a chat w/ a Spectrum rep I changed my email password and started over. In some places where I received an error message I just ignored them, pushed onward and lo I was able to set up a new Mail account that, so far, appears to be error free [prob ably shouldn't have said that...].

So, thanks for the posts above and the advice y'all passed along.
