Apple has announced that its downtown San Francisco store at 1 Stockton Street is closing on Friday, May 20 at 9:00 p.m. Pacific, ahead of the grand opening of its new flagship Union Square location on Saturday, May 21 at 10:00 a.m. Pacific.

The new Union Square store at 300 Post Street, just three blocks down Stockton Street from the existing store, has been planned since 2013 and under construction for over two years. The store will feature Apple's next-generation store design adopted at its new and renovated retail stores like Brussels and Memphis since 2015.

Union Square is the focal point of San Francisco's high-end shopping district, located above the city's work-in-progress Central Subway project.

Can't wait to see the banners of all those colorful rubber accessories that seem to be the center of attention of these stores rather than the products themselves.

I got my 6s Plus and my iPad Pro at the stockton flagship. It was always a blast dodging the construction equipment or huge holes in the road to get to the store.

I used to live in the bay area and it was a pain to go to the Stockton street store. Now I live in Beaverton and it takes about 15 minutes and the rail drips you off right in front of the Apple Store. Friendlier staff and nicer store I think than the Stockton store. I wish you guys have a better place to go now.

I've been walking past this project nearly every day since it was started almost two years ago. I have to say I'm shocked that it's opening this weekend, it looks like there's still months of work to do. I took this photo just last week; guess they've been busy inside!

Wasn't this the store where they made a big stink about a fountain or statue or something? Whatever happened to that as I don't see it in the picture?

Those are power lines for the buses, not sure what the cone is about.

Those trolleybus power lines are currently unused; the trolleybuses that use them are rerouted due to the Central Subway construction. The cone is something MUNI to mark unused lines; it's completely unrelated to the Apple Store construction.

I agree, I walk pass it every day on my way to work and today it seemed like it's not even close to being ready for this weekend. Someone is going to have to work extra time I guess :p
