As part of its iPad mini update today adding a Retina display to its smaller iPad line, Apple also introduced new 128 GB variations for the first time.

The new models, which offer double the storage capacity of the previous high-end iPad mini, will come with a $100 premium available in all combinations of space gray and silver and Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi + Cellular models.

The move comes almost eight months after Apple announced that the full-sized iPad would be receiving a 128GB variation.

The iPad mini with Retina Display is currently unavailable, but will arrive in November.

What do people expect? Of course the price was going to go up for a Retina model.

It will still sell like crazy. No Retina was a deal killer for a lot of people.

The new iPad Mini retina is spec for spec exactly the same as the iPad Air -- Just a smaller size screen. Even though I wanted a full size iPad, in anticipation of an iPad Pro at WWDC, I'm picking up a Mini retina which can be repurposed for the car later :)

So slick... :) They didnt announce it but its something that if I didnt already own a Mini and a MacBook Air, I would definitely go for :)

Sure, don't we all wish that all Apple products were cheaper, but in reality this is EXACTLY what I have been waiting for to upgrade from my iPad 3. And seeing that I long ago ran out of space on my 3, the 128 Mini will double my current storage capacity for photos, music and apps.

I had a strong feeling that the 2nd gen iPad mini would get the A7. I was really surprised about the 128GB option. I'm leaning toward the iPad mini 2, but I have to see how the iPad Air feels in my hands first.

This, I have been waiting to update my iPad2 till the mini came out with Retina display, however, the iPad Air is very appealing. I will need to handle both before I can decide.

In electronics - usually - smaller equals more expensive.

Not like this. This is kind of ridiculous, especially since the original Mini was only $329. This kind of thing will only widen the gap between the cheaper Windows 8 and Android tablets and the expensive iPads. A big part of the Mini was it's affordability and it's flying out the window with this news, unless someone wants an original Mini.
