Apple earlier this month teased new Powerbeats Pro 2 earphones that are set to come out next year, and MacRumors has found more information on the new earbuds tucked away in Apple's latest software updates.

The Powerbeats Pro 2 will be able to measure heart rate, sending the information to the Apple Health app on the iPhone. You will need to wear both earbuds during a workout to get this functionality. You will also be able to connect the earbuds to gym equipment to measure heart rate while using a machine like a treadmill.

It sounds like heart rate will only be measured when a workout is started in a compatible fitness app, but this is not functionality offered in any other earbuds that Apple or Beats makes. The earbuds are also set to support Active Noise Cancellation, Spatial Audio, and Adaptive Audio.

Based on images found in the software, the Powerbeats Pro 2 will come in orange, purple, black, and a beige color, and they will have matching colored charging cases. While the new earbuds look similar to the current Powerbeats Pro, the updated version has a slimmer design.

Apple's Beats brand has not yet provided a specific release date for the new wireless headphones, but they are set to launch in 2025.

Been waiting for these for so long. Since the first versions came out with their design flaw where they don't always charge in the case, along with continuing to miss out on the latest features, including usb-c. Seems we will finally get it all, with the main unknown being whether will have a wireless charging case. I'm leaning towards yes, but time will tell. Also interesting pre-announcing. Have to think that means at the March event, as would seem very odd to announce if not until next June or Sept.

Nice, so a reason to skip the new AirPods before they're even launched, who thinks this stuff up, fragmentation across all products.

Lol what? Are the existing AirPods Pro also a "reason to skip the new AirPods?" It's segmentation, not fragmentation.

Small tidbit: Apple released new 4 pack of ear tips for APP2 today. Wonder if they’re the same. They mentioned all the ear measurement stuff and maybe made adjustments??

I am so hyped for these. Hope that's a physical button on the buds themselves though.

They're headphones, am I listening wrong? The flagship AirPod pros are now attacked from all directions.

The AirPods Pro 2 are still the flagship and will remain the flagship until the Pro 3s are released, probably at the same time (or before) the Beats. Apple also just announced a huge (free!) update to the Pro 2s that aren't coming to any other product. Chill out, this alleged feature hasn't even been announced and for all we know may never be.

Finally, some upgraded earbuds that won't fall out of my ears! I will be getting these.

I'm not sure I follow.
You said 2 different uses, to me there's only one - sound. I'd rather that apple do some real innovating like hi-res lossless to match what they have in the Apple Music store or to introduce new features on flagship products & for these to trickle down to other models.

As it stands, it looks like Powerbeats are getting a headline feature not found elsewhere in the range to the new AirPods getting features directly lifted from the flagship model without updating said flagship model, make it make sense.

It's a shame I have to wait until next year. I need the peace of mind my earbuds aren't going to fall off during runs.

My watch already does that… don’t need to upgrade here either. Although I dig that bright orange.
