Not sure why MacRumours decide not to pick up this story. So I will post here.

New USB-C to Lightning cable, shipping now in certain regions. Likely default and ship with the new USB-C charger in 2018. It is cheaper, lighter and thinner.

The sad news? Slightly worst electric characteristics, as cost cutting measures they removed all USB 3.0+ Pin. So the cable only supports USB 1.1 / 2.0 / Power Delivery and USB - Audio.

Does that mean it won’t charge the 12.9-inch iPad Pro properly when used with the 29W USB-C Power Adapter?

It will, but may be not fast as it was, depending on the Cable and Power Adaptor it shipped with which I haven't checked out the spec yet.

Neither USB-C adapter nor cable ships with iPad Pro, you have to buy them separately.
