Last week, ZDNet Australia reported that Apple is planning to include in its next iOS software update a fix for an issue related to Daylight Saving Time that is currently plaguing users of the iPhone's alarm functionality in Australia and New Zealand.

The issue, which affects only recurring alarms set through the iPhone's "Clock" application, is resulting in alarms going off one hour earlier than their scheduled times. It first appeared in New Zealand late last month as that country switched to Daylight Saving Time, and reared its head in Australia earlier this month when that country made the switch.
Apple Australia told ZDNet Australia that a solution to the bug was already in the pipeline.

"We're aware of this issue and already developed a fix which will be available to customers in an upcoming software update," Apple said.
It is unclear when Apple plans to deploy the fix, but it seems reasonable to assume that Apple will want to patch the issue as quickly as possible as more countries switch to or from Daylight Saving Time in the coming weeks. Apple has already announced that it will be releasing iOS 4.2 in November, but that timeframe may not be soon enough for this fix, suggesting that an iOS 4.1.1 may make an appearance in the near future.

I find it amazing that a bug like that wasn't fixed sooner. Surely it's quite simple to fix? Why wasn't it just released as a bug fix?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Fix it before I wake at the wrong time! Lol I use my alarm to wake up every morning for work

From what I can tell from the article, it only seems to affect people in New Zealand and Australia.

hehe, I realised the problem started with the calendars schedules starting an hour early in Queensland :p then the following day I thought I woke up an hour later but checked the time on my iMac and felt good that Sunday because it seemed like I "gained" an hour. :D

Good to hear - this has been SO annoying. Really screwed me up for a couple of days before I realized what was going on. It's a bad bug. They need to push the fix out ASAP and not hold it for 4.2. I can't trust my iPhone alarm right now.

Let's hope the also fix the USB audio bug in 4.1.1. Given that it's affecting core functionality of all iOS devices, in some ways this is even more critical.

Remember our clocks go back an hour to GMT in a couple of weeks time so it will affect us if Apple haven't issued a fix by then.
Ah fair enough, but it still amazes me that this wasn't fixed sooner. I can't imagine that this is a very difficult thing for Apple's development team to fix. They could just release this as a tiny bug fix. Why delay it until 4.2?

Alarms going off early making the news today... and very sad if they will not support 4G... I understand, but at least make the hardware capable of supporting it. More or less that means anyone who adopts next year will be stuck in 3g world for a 24 month contract.

Maybe that's why it says this...

aw it works fine. the worst case is that you get up an hour earlier (southern hemisphere of course). but you just have to fiddle with the settings in both your calendar and date/time and there won't be a problem.

Where are the antennagate people when we need then to complain about real problems.

Up until the bug is fixed, of course.
Then you'll be screwed over by the bug fix and you'll have to put them all back.

I use a third party app, Alarm Clock Pro, as my alarm clock, I hope it swaps over properly.
