Events and new product releases normally follow the conference call, maybe the event isn't going to happen on the 4th?.

I thought just the opposite.

Doesn't Apple normally make a statement like "We sold x million y's in the first z days on the market!"at their conference calls, even if the revenue from those wouldn't be counted in the quarter they're announcing? (It'd be part of the "forward-looking statements" that they mention.)

To the best of my knowledge Apple has never used a quarterly finical conference call to announce/release products. They will give high-level updates on how a product or product family is doing but not announce new things.

Apple uses separate events to announce products often well off cycle from quarter endings.

Lions release date was conformed on one of these calls.

What will be really interesting will be Apple's response to questions regarding a possible decline in iPad orders. There could be a big swing in Apple's stock price depending on its answers to these questions.

Yeah, what i mean is that it is kind of a trend that a week or so after the call an event is held or a new product is released, usually refreshed Macs or something, the event or the new product doesn't come before the call.

I'm kinda thinking iOS5 will be released on the 5th. While I realize that we haven't seen a GM yet, I think it'll be within a day or two.

Or they will be actually announcing everything on the 5th. There's nothing to say the 5th won't be the date.

You'll see. ;-) the 10th for iOS.

businesses report their 4th quarter financial results in Octoberish?

I thought 4th quarter results would be sales and accomplishments done from October to December. Oh wells, I'm always glad for another apple event :)

Fiscal years != calendar years. Apple, the US gov't and many others use October 1st as the start of their fiscal years.

I wonder how many records will have been broken this time

Think they got a chance to set almost new records across the board except for iPods. Breaking over 30B+ in revs looks to be a given. Sadly, doubt any of the records will hold through the holiday quarter as they get reset again ;)
