The first half of each year is a slow time for Apple retail store openings, but the company does continue to schedule sporadic additions to its network of stores as new locations come online. For its latest addition, Apple will be holding a grand opening for its second store in Rome, Italy this Saturday, April 21 at 10:00 AM. The new Porta di Roma store is located in the shopping center of the same name, a major mall with over 220 shops that opened five years ago.

Just yesterday, iApp-Mac posted a few photos [Google translation] of the new store, which remains hidden behind a black construction barrier typical of Apple's projects.

The new Porta di Roma store will be Apple's tenth Italian location and will join the existing RomaEst store in serving the city's customers.

Well.. you know what they say;

when in Rome... do as the Romans do and open an Apple store? :)

What's funny is that black construction barrier typical of Apple's projects looks better than some other stores.

This one too is located in "the ass of the Moon" ("in culo alla Luna") as they say in Rome...
Why is so difficult to find a location closer to downtown?

yippie kay yay

Yes!!!! Yes!!! That's the best mall in Rome, the mall where they opened the first store in Rome is way too far to reach. The Porta di Roma mall is very famous among Romans, there you can find Ikea, a huge electronics store (mediaworld) and a couple of big stores for sports and common merchandise.
I always thought this would have been the perfect spot for an Apple Store.

I don't think so. Personally I hate porta di roma, it's an over crowded place where stupid people go and do nothing but walking. It's not a refined place but a massive shopping center. I've always thought that an Apple store in the "galleria alberto sordi" at piazza colonna should be the best place to place such store. I don't think in the next wwdc, Tim would show pictures of porta di roma's apple store, and let's not forget that in this shopping center, there already is a reasonable amount of "apple space" in the near electronic store, mediaworld.
cmon apple, piazza colonna is waiting:apple:

p.s. and this shopping center is nowhere near rome's center, in fact if it would have been only 20 meters north it would be in the outskirts of rome

I got my MBA screen replaced in Roma Est, it was the only place I ended up staying long enough in Europe to get this all sorted, and I started the process in their Florence store (again another "conveniently" located Apple Store) - even though that didn't work out, and they needed to re-order the screen part.

I tell you what Travellers, don't ever go out that way unless you speak Italian or it's early in the day. If it's during the day you can manage getting back into Rome, but to this day I still don't know exactly what kind of luck I pulled out to get back home that first night I went down.

How green is the Apple ?

Yet another store which cannot be reached using public transport.

Note to Apple: The carbon footprint INCLUDES the customer's car emissions traveling to the store.

Way outside again. Why cant they find something nice in the downtown area?

Actually you can reach that mall (unlike Roma Est) with buses. 84 to the end of the line, then 38 to the mall.
That said, I totally agree that it would've been MUCH better to open an apple store in the center of the city instead of out in the boondocks!
