Whatever your view of the iOS 5 information that came out today (huge upgrade or catch up to Android), I'm curious if you agree with how Apple releases software upgrades annually. I'm sure some of the 200 features Apple is putting into iOS 5 have been done for quite a while. They could have been released earlier. They don't have to be released at a developer's conference (or the SDK could be updated more than once).
The marketing value of making a big splash is obvious but I find myself disappointed that we likely won't see any other significant improvements for 16-17 months from now (Sept-Nov '12).
Would it make more sense to release more often (twice a year)? Apple could double the number of marketing events and not relegate 190 features to footnote status while concentrating on 10 or so, once a year.
