Apple will bring the Vision Pro companion app to the iPad with the release of iPadOS 26.1, marking the first time iPad users can manage and explore spatial content for the headset directly from their devices.

Apple mentioned the expansion in the press release for the new Vision Pro with the M5 chip. The Vision Pro app was first introduced earlier this year with iOS 18.4, giving iPhone users the ability to browse and download apps, games, and media experiences for the Vision Pro without needing to wear the headset.

The app features a Discover page that highlights curated recommendations for "new and noteworthy experiences available on Apple Vision Pro," including categories such as Immersive Video, 3D movies, and other spatial apps. The My Vision Pro page within the app provides device-specific information and tools. The app also includes guest management features.

The Vision Pro app was automatically installed for iPhone users after updating to iOS 18.4 in April, and the iPadOS 26.1 release will extend the same integration to iPads. iPadOS 26.1 is likely to be released later this month or in early November.

This is one of those perplexing Apple things…

Why was this not available from the launch of the AVP?

Not that I think it'd have made a difference to numbers sold, but it would have shown they are committed to their own project.

They pretend to release 5G on MacBooks Pro than IPads lmao

Let's be honest - or not honest, whichever is preferred. The Apple Vision Pro should not exist in it's current form. It should be an APPLICATION for iPad PRO's. The device sitting uncofortably on your head (all VR headsets are uncomfortable to wera to be clear) should be a light weight headset with sensors and an outboard battery to make things more super lgiht. Wear the batery in your back pocket or clip it to your pantaloons. The now re-envisioned LIGHT headset with OUTBOARD battery can then CONNECT to your IPAD PRO wirelessly (keep it close by suckas!) Here you now have an ACCESSORY to an already super super expensive ecosystem. We dont need more expensive **** to pile up trying to figre out what to use, or bring with us on trips we don't deserve taking. iphone? ipad? vision? Watch? Come on, bro seed.

I agree with you 100% on this one. I think Cook wanted to rush to release this, because I'm guessing he thought it would sell better than it has.

Based on flipping through that app I would have no clue how to use it to set up a guest. where is that? I see a page of ads and a page of basic settings and info about the device.

It appears only when you turn on guest mode, its neat and to your credit I wish they always had it on the screen instead of hiding it but it was super useful so I can watch them use the AVP and I can help them do things etc. Also the ability to restrict apps on the fly came in clutch lol.

lol well thank you! I def didn't realize that. I've somehow made it all this time without letting anyone use mine but there's a few people I think should. the one person I actively tried to get to use it complained they had vertigo and didn't want to try it.

I get motion sick very very easily, the AVP was the first headset I could use without wanting to puke my guts, and once I upgraded to a good headband (the globestar or whatever its called) I could wear it for 8+ hours without issue.

Your discussion here brings up an important point and impediment for this type of device.

There is always going to be a certain large segment of people who either can't or won't use this type of device for comfort/pleasure reasons.

From this particular standpoint, AR glasses of some kind make a lot more sense if one is chasing mainstream adoption.

of course. but true AR glasses are still many years away. They should be pushing and actively developing for Vision Pro til they can get there. Happy to be a guinea pig for it cus I love the device as is. For now I've never been more excited to watch movies and play games on something every day even a year and a half after getting it

For some use cases, absolutely. For others like watching movies, shows, etc it makes a lot more sense to block out everything. Even for productivity purposes one of the huge benefits of the AVP for me is to massively cut out the visual noise when I work so I can focus and concentrate. Especially if I throw in airpods and put on some ambient noises and I am suddenly working on the beach or next to a beautiful mountain in peace and quiet.

I do think if Apple made a mac tethered version that is MUCH lighter and cheaper would be a big hit. The lightness and the faster refresh rates should all but eliminate comfort issues for extended VR sessions.

AR to me makes more sense for stuff like messages, email etc on the go. Effectively whatever an Apple watch can do but without having a watch.

It is early and I need more caffeine. With that in mind, what would the benefit be of an iPad app for the Apple Watch? Or do you mean an Apple Watch app for the iPad? Maybe I'm reading this wrong.

English is not my first language. But I am talking about an iPad app (on iPad) to manage the Apple watch, so you don't need an iPhone to use an Apple Watch.

I’m psyched this app exists. As a soon-to-be owner, I wouldn’t mind info on current/popular apps, as well as running guest mode when I “encourage” ;) my family to give it a shot.

Yea I agree it is a very tasteful app and it helped me find experiences and apps I would of not found by looking (didn't know I wanted it until I saw it). It also has a good guide in it.

Because AVP released ~4 years before the App Store.

Where is the Health and Fitness app for the iPad yet? Apple always misses the boat when it comes to unifying apps across their platforms!
