macOS Applescript - Manual for conversion

New to AppleScript and to Mac - but on windows competent with VB, VBA - looking to use AppleScript with VBA to make current code cross-platform (hopefully) - Recommend a good Book (as in paper I can take to bed too) to get started (not a Dummies book - something helpful & for reference please.
