Hi,

I have been having problems with my iMac G5 first generation running osx 10.3.9. Its been shutting down randomly. I'm getting the error message

AppleSMU -- shutdown cause = -110

in the system log. I was wondering if anyone knew what the cause was or could tell me where to find out or what the meaning of this error message is. The guy in the apple store said nothing more than i would need to replace the whole logic board. I hoped to find another solution.

Thanks,

Rob.

According to this site, the cause is a faulty SMU chip - part of the Mac's power management system. The best fix for this is a logic board replacement, as the Apple Store rep said.

Here are others with the same problem. Read all of the posts, but pay close attention to post #6.
