Just bought a couple of used Apple TV 3rd gen's for the bedrooms and sent back the cable boxes that were costing me $10ea per month.

However i noticed that watching the boxing on both Showtime and HBO, the frame rate is only 30fps, instead of 60fps.

So i fired up my PS3, and noticed that HBO Go was only 30fps whilst watching the boxing.

While watching the cable box it was most definitely 60fps. No judder whatsover and very smooth.

I could go-ahead and upgrade to a 4th Gen, if i knew it was going to fix the problem, and its just not the app that's limited.

I knocked the resolution down in settings to 720p to see if i could get 60fps but it didn't. So put it back to 1080p.

30fps vs 60fps is only noticable on certain broadcasts. Films it wouldn't be as they're shot in 24fps.. But for all sports 60fps is a must for me.

Anyone else noticed this ? will a 4th gen fix the problem for me, or do i need to hit Comcast (spit) back up for one of their boxes again.

Fox Sports and Watch ESPN are 60fps on the 4th gen. Also MLBTV. Not sure about HBO and Showtime.

Thanks, does anyone with a 4th gen know the answer to this? i'm a big boxing fan, and the missus normally sends me upstairs to watch the fights so that's when i'd be using the ATV.

As i said, i do have some 3rd gen ATV's which does not do 60fps.

What cable box does 60fps? I've never seen one that does that for regular hd broadcast. What's even more interesting is no one broadcasts anything at 60fps except maybe DIRECTVs 4k stuff. But no one else goes beyond 30fps.

If I had to guess this had more to do with some super motion setting in your tv on a particular input. What tv is this on?

Edit: to be clear I assumed you are asking about 1080p at that rate. 1080i is interlaced and 60 but only half the imagine at once. Two very different things than 1080p at 60fps which no one does.

And 720p is almost always 30fps. In fact not sure I've seen anyone broadcast at 60fps for a 720 broadcast either.

[doublepost=1488590632][/doublepost]No all my TV's are Panasonic THX Plasma's, (various models) which do not do that LCD 120hz gimmick. Boxing and sports are at 60fps. But on the ATV its a noticeable drop.
