Since updating to tvOS having multiple technical issues on my Apple TV 4Ks. Most I can live with: the visual scrolling glitches, flickering when moving within app menus, and action latencies suggesting possible memory issues.

That said it might just be my units, but what is really bothersome is when videos do not play after the Apple TV 4Ks are woken from sleep and the require a restart to resolve the issue. OS features work fine and applications open fine but after selecting a show to watch it simply won't play - any streaming service app. This issue started on both of my devices after upgrading to tvOS26.

tvOS version 26.0.1

Did you manually update your Apple TVs? Mine has automatic updates on and is still on tvOS 18. Perhaps Apple has slowed the rollout due to bugs.

I haven't seen any more issues than normal after tvOS 26 update. Once in a while I'll need to force-quit a specific app (PBS and Paramount come to mind) but I've needed to do that in 18 as well. Can't speak to "latencies" as I only get involved when it's not working ;) wife has the remote usually.

I think major version updates require you to do them manually.
point updates happen automatically.

At least that's the case on Mac and iPhone. I'm assuming it applies to aTV also.

The amazon prime app sucks. It doesn't play well with others. If I want to mirror my phone to my apple 4k gen 2 and prime is playing, I have to EXIT prime to the home screen. Most other streaming apps work fine. (CBC Gem does not.)
Paramount has its own issues with sound - the sound from Paramount is less than stellar.

I will often have to hard-exit the Prime app so that the audio works properly with other streaming apps.
All of my apps are up-to-date with automatic updates. I had to manually update to TV O/S 26.

I wish that there was some standard interface that all the developers could use. OH WAIT, THERE IS. They just choose not to use it.

I don't know if it’s buffering or poor video quality, but sometimes the video goes completely sideways during TNF when they go to commercial breaks then come back. Have to back out and go back to the game to clear it. FoxOne and ESPN lock up all the time during games as well. Could be they are still new (ESPN made a lot of changes) and they are buggy.

dont know why anyone in their right mind would update appletv or homepods to ios 26

Yeah I see thai with Apple TV 4k 3 generation. I’ve seen this happen more and more over the last year. Often it happens on public beta versions which it never used to. Quality control is 100% worse in the last year. I managed to resolve the video not playing a few months ago with a full reset but it’s happening again now with 26.1 when coming out of sleep. Sometimes also in normal operation streaming videos suddenly stop playing and the device needs a reboot.

Same issue - no audio and no streaming (just hangs) until I restart. Switching resolutions causes audio tumb sound.
Sloppy SW seems all Apple can make these days.

curious, why did you upgrade to 26?

dont get me wrong you shouldnt have to worry about an upgrade ruining your device but wondering what feature or reason you might have...

It’s rarely an issue, fun to get new features. “Anyone in their right mind” is dramatic.

iOS 26 on my 3rd Gen 4k is horrible. Netflix freezes during commercials, LillyPlayer crashes on start up and other apps have quirky problems. It got so bad I installed 26.2 beta and the same problems persist. Wasted update…I should have left “auto update “ to “off”.

yep... plus zero new features that matter.
