I have an AppleTV HD that says the software is up-to-date with the latest tvOS 15.6. When I try to update it, it will not show tvOS 16. It always says that my AppleTV is up-to-date.

Does anyone know how to force it to update to tvOS 16 or did I miss that the AppleTV HD is not compatible with tvOS 16?

My ATVHD is on tvOS 16.2

You could try a full reset and see if it’ll initiate the update that way.

I have two AppleTV HD's, they are set to sync with iCloud. I have never understood software updates, mine are both still on TVOS 14.0.2 and they are set to automatically update. But they never seem to auto-update. Just tried going to the preferences, clicked the update button and it says that 16.0.2 (or whatever) is available and I can manually update. Wonder why they won't do this automatically?

Honestly, they both seem to work fine so this isn't something I want to mess with. :) However, I am not having the same problem as the OP, since it does offer the 16.x update.

I'll try a reset the next time I'm at my parents and see if that helps (it's in my old bedroom for when I visit).
