Hey gang. I need to get you guys in on this. I have a TCL brand television. It does not allow me to control the TV through the Apple TV, as it’s a bit older model. The IR has always worked perfectly for volume and mute.
Out of nowhere, my volume and mute stopped working. I could not get it to work. All other remotes worked, including the old Apple TV remote. I guess I should state I am on the latest Apple TV, with a new remote. As I just said, the old remote still works on this TV. So does the actual TV remote. I know it’s not the TV itself.

I called Apple support. We were on the phone for two hours. We determined the remote was fine, it must be the Apple TV. I made a Genius Bar appointment, they replaced my Apple TV and remote, no problem.

I hooked it up, and it worked as expected. I unplugged the Apple TV, to take with me somewhere, and when I plugged it back into my TV, because I didn’t actually go on the trip, the volume no longer works with the IR.

I am mediately thought it was the HDMI cable, so I spent $40 on a Belkin HDMI cable that is supposed to be one of the best for the Apple TV 4K. I thought this must be the issue. It was not the issue, I still cannot get the IR to work with my volume.

I already know most of the comments are going to tell me to go into settings, and try turning off auto, going just to IR, learning the remote,… I have done all of this. I did all of this with Apple. This does not fix the issue. I don’t understand how it worked, and out of the blue it doesn’t work anymore. I even tried installing the beta software on the Apple TV, to see if it was a software issue. I’m getting the same thing.

to most people, I am sure this is a very minor problem. Just use your TV remote to raise and lower the volume. I get that. But that’s not the point. I cannot figure out what is wrong, why this just stops working out of nowhere, and nothing I do get it to work again after it stops working. It’s driving me crazy.

has anyone else had this issue, does anyone have a solution, or does anyone have something out of the box that I might be able to try? Because myself, and Apple support, cannot figure out this problem.

Please, for the love of Apple, help me.

This is going to be a question out of left field, but do you have a cover on that new remote? I ask because I bought two remote covers for the new style remote and they blocked the IR. I had to send them back.
