The remote on my AppleTV 4K has been wonky for a while now. When I try to use the click-wheel on it, it sometimes sticks going forward or whatever. It's just wonky. I've unpaired it and re-paired it a few times, but it doesn't help.

ANYWAY, I've been using the Remote app on my iPhone to control my ATV, and it's been fine for a while. But in the last 2 days, I've lost the 10 Second forward/backwards buttons on the app that appeared. They're gone. It's just the big click area and then the controls at the bottom. I've restarted my iPhone, ATV and un-paired/re-paired the app and they're still gone.

Here's a picture of what it's suppose to look like. The 10sec forward/backwards buttons and the middle "closed captions" button is gone also. Any suggestions?

Ha, I had this problem ages ago but it somehow fixed itself and I hadn't been concerned about it until I saw your post.

Just now I launched the remote to confirm the 10 Second buttons were still there but they weren't - WTF I thought - so I pressed play on a video and then the buttons appeared. So, you must need a video playing for the buttons to appear, hopefully knowing this will fix your "problem" 🙂

Yep, I checked just now, and they are gone. Another spec dump by Apple wherein they do away with features.

Well, it’s not quite as easy but you can ask Siri to skip ahead 10 seconds. The Siri fast forward and rewind requests work extremely well for me.

Apple Support is as useless as teats on a boar hog. Support employees are basically unknowledgeable people who have a book of scripts from which to respond. They are usually clueless. With Apple you get what you get, and they don't seem to care if we are happy or not...

Guess you have had totally a different experience with Apple Support. I usually have a lot of active support cases running with various companies (8 active right now) so I can confidently say that Apple Support is one of the best in the industry. This is based on maybe a thousand support calls to Apple. As with any support organization there are duds, but in depending on corporate policy they can go way beyond what other companies do.

As for scripts, they do have standard troubleshooting practices but is not at all script based. Shall I tell the tale of the company that is totally script based, where they had me fill out the same form something like 10 times yet never bothered to actually read or understand the forms which I had sent them? Apple reps have varying levels of experience. When you call you need to evaluate their responses and decide if they are capable of solving a problem. In most cases they will realize that they don't have the expertise and turn the call over to a senior advisor. If you get a poor rep you just politely say "thank you", hang up and call back.

I've had this same problem for years now, first with the separate Remote app and now with the Remote in the Control Center. The 10 sec buttons frequently disappear, whether a movie is playing or paused, and even the lock screen controls intermittently disappear completely or have the 10 sec buttons missing. This is a function that apparently has been forgotten by Apple, and it really detracts from the enjoyment of using the Apple TV. All up-to-date software, Apple TV 4K, same thing happens on iPhone and iPad. Really frustrating.
