AppleTV Response Time MEGA slow

I have a hacked AppleTV and it works fairly well with my external USB drives I have attached to it.

I usually upload movies via SFTP to the AppleTV. All machines on my network are connected wirelessly via Airport Extreme.

On some occasions, uploading to the AppleTV is dog slow - for example, I am currently uploading at 4Kb/sec, which is downright ridiculous. I have restarted the AppleTV, the Airpot Extreme Base station and the problem still randomly persists. Any ideas on what can be causing this erratic behavior?

I guess it pretty much boils down to network latency...here is the ping result for a machine on my network:

64 bytes from 10.0.1.12: icmp_seq=0 ttl=64 time=0.274 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.1.12: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.376 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.1.12: icmp_seq=2 ttl=64 time=0.472 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.1.12: icmp_seq=3 ttl=64 time=0.348 ms

And here is the same one for my AppleTV:

64 bytes from 10.0.1.13: icmp_seq=43 ttl=64 time=27.709 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.1.13: icmp_seq=52 ttl=64 time=4.092 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.1.13: icmp_seq=53 ttl=64 time=3.405 ms
64 bytes from 10.0.1.13: icmp_seq=54 ttl=64 time=89.896 ms

What could be causing the slow response time from the AppleTV?

Packet loss on WiFi is common, but if it becomes too high due to interference, it can really cause lots of problems.

This goes especially for TCP sessions and SSL. Losing a packet, out of order packets, and dup'ed packets can slow transfers down to a halt. SSL is not really known for its speed anyway.

Another thing that i have noticed is UI response time and over all performance when the unit gets too hot. A couple of times, it just got really bad. I had to let the thing cool down for a little while and all was well.
