alright i'm about to purchase an appletv, and an external hdd to hold my media that i will be streaming to the atv. with that said, what is the best way to go?
let me give you guys an idea of my current setup..
macbook pro 15" 2.4GHz 2GB ram
2 x 23" apple cinema display
apple wireless mighty mouse and keyboard
as you can see, i like to stick with apple products
i have been looking at the iomega 1tb minimax external hdd and a 40gb appleTv. i was about to purchase this combo when i started thinking, hey, why not get a time capsule, turn off the backup feature, and use it as a router (i'm moving into a new apartment within a month so i will need a new router as it is), and use it as my external hdd as well-knock out two birds with one stone.
here's my thoughts.. please correct me if i'm wrong, but from my understanding, when i want to watch a movie on my appleTv, i will choose a movie from the interface on the atv, it will relay the message to iTunes on my mbp, which will then have to send a wireless signal to the time capsule, grab the movie, then bounce it back to itunes through my mbp, and finally stream it from my mbp to the atv. is that correct? or does the itunes signal the time capsule, and can the appleTv grab the stream directly from the time capsule, without routing it back through the mbp?
i apologize if that is hard to follow, please let me know if i need to clarify. i won't be using the time capsule to back up any data, just to hold my movies, and music. i'm looking for the most efficient method possible. straying from the apple brand is ok, as long as it performs, and has the same aesthetic appeal as well thanks!
