I have the appletv hd version, not 4K, it feels broke, apps like plutotv will work fine after a reboot but when you turn it on the next day it won’t work and you have to reboot again…. I am guess it’s a cache management issue but really don’t know… I just know it’s gotten worse over the last year…literally have to reboot every day to keep it running

Is it the Apple TV getting worse or is Pluto TV not updating their app, I had something similar last year with the HBO App and having to force close it every day, but after they updated the app no more problems.

I agree, there has been a lot of updates and bugs and changes to the code which makes it rather difficult for the app developers to keep up with. I know Philo has been struggling with the new tvOS 15.x releases, and so have other apps. The app developers have to deal with the bugs and constant changes. So it is primarily the fault of Apple and their crappy development in the past year or two, but often also partially the fault of some of the app developers. Bottom line is we have fewer stable apps from which to stream these days...

Thanks for the comments… I was starting to think my appletv might be entering end of life, but it sounds like even if I upgraded the problems may persist til Apple gets on same page with developers. The paramount app is buggy also but just about all of them run better after a reboot… that’s why I was thinking it might be a cache problem, it needs an auto delete function if that’s the culprit

Perhaps it’s a mistake for Apple to be letting these companies build there own apps if they don’t have the code right for them to be 100% successful… Apple is big enough to have a team build it for them….it’s a big deal when a subscription service does not work and reflects more poorly on Apple than it does on the media companies…. Jobs would not have put up with that

I have one latest generation and another earlier generation. I had been using another 2nd generation. Frankly they all have been buggy as heck. I don't know if it is Apple, or the various apps not playing nice with the AppleTV iOS/firmware.

Half the time I can't back out of a tv show I'm watching, to switch to another tv show/movie within the same service/app. Yes, I can get to the desktop, and use another app. But relaunching the app. I was using it brings me back to the TV/show or movie I was watching.

This happens across several apps. that I use to watch tv shows or movies.

I suppose I should do a total reset on the new, and older AppleTV I'm using. But what a pain to sign in to all the various service accounts. I wish there was a password services app. for the Apple TV.

While I'm at it, I wish there was a way to better find shows I watch in one place. Half the time I can't remember what service is hosting what I'm trying to return to. Siri BTW isn't so great to find them. If Siri does find them there usually is a complication about which service I'm using for the particular movie I'm trying to start viewing again.

I guess what I would like to see is a place where I could "pin" my current tv shows and movies, and then delete them after I'm done. "Up Next" is too weak IMHO.

Been loving my first Gen 4k which is running Canadian, USA, and UK apps on the same box with no issues except for HBO which was fixed with an app update.
I'm running first-gen 4K up here in Canada and I find it buggy with Disney and at times other streaming apps.
Disney worse, sometimes I have to quit out of the movie and start over.

this summer the MLB app on a 2020 TV
had voices from another game while i was watching a live game
for several weeks.
could be apple?
could be mlb?
so i disconnected the apple tv an used a Dell XSP for the rest of the summer without a hitch

That was 1000% the programmers who work for MLB. Whomever does the coding for MLB.tv should be taken out back and shot. I've had problems for years on all platforms: tvOS, iOS, Roku, etc. At one point this past season, it got so bad neither my AppleTV or Roku would work. I had to pull it up on my Mac and Airplay it. There was also the longstanding bug this summer where having HomePods hooked up to your AppleTV would kill the audio for MLBtv. No other app has ever had that problem. And don't get me started on the fact that when you try to listen to a game using CarPlay, they force you to log in each and every time you pull a feed up. You know, because having to enter your login credentials while driving is such a safe activity. Once again, I've never had that problem with any other CarPlay aware app.

Honestly, MLB is not alone. The AT&TNow/Directv app is rather poorly coded and the UI sucks. We've had tons of problems with it.

Meanwhile, apps like Netflix, Amazon, Disney, Hulu, etc. rarely have problems probably because those companies care about the user experience.

Frankly, I'm not surprised that notoriously cheap companies who don't really care about their customers are the same ones with poorly coded apps.

I have two AppleTV HD's (ATV4) and haven't noticed any change in reliability. I use very few third party apps, Sling, Discovery+ and Prime are just about all that I have installed. The Sling app has been buggy from the start. I have to reboot the Apple TV to clear up problems with it every few days, but that is clearly app-related.
