I’ve tried Air Playing to my ATV from iP12 Pro Max and that doesn’t work at all. Won’t even play. If you go to the Photos app on ATV and play a video, it plays but is heavily compressed. Doesn’t appear to be 4K but does playback with proper colors. Not flat like uploaded Dolby Vision videos look like on other sites like Facebook. However it’s not Dolby Vision as the TV does not switch to that mode when playing.

Looking at the video on the phone it looks fantastic. Amazing really. Just wish I could see it on my TV!

I tried air playing a 4k movie it and didn't have any airplay issues, other than the fact that it stuttered a lot.

I have a lot of videos in iTunes and they play just fine on the Apple TV.

There is one report that DV doesn't go over airplay.

I have lots of videos that play fine over AppleTV too. That’s not the issue. The issue is Dolby Vision home videos made on the new Dolby Vision phones don’t seem to play on Apple TV. Go to the Photos app on your Apple TV. Then go to your videos library. Find a recent video you recorded with your phone in Dolby Vision and play it.
For me it plays with correct “colors” looks visually correct but it’s not in Dolby Vision, looks heavily compressed, and is barely 1080p looking.

I haven't been able to find any mention that these videos would be viewable on any other device but the iPhone. All mention of Dolby Vision on the Apple TV is in reference to purchased content only.

That's a bummer. I wish the ATV division wasn't such the red-headed step child of Apple. :\

(wait, can I even say that old phrase any more?)

Playing a DV video created by my iPhone in Photos shows the original source Dolby Vision 8.4, but plays in SDR on my Apple TV 4k in 1080p. Plex does see as 4K, but does not report it as HDR.

I can confirm, that DoVi playback is not limited to purchased content only.
I can play my own library files, that are in DoVi, using Plex server, like mentioned in neighbouring thread.
The problem with Home Sharing has been, that iTunes/TV app ingests file happily, but the Computers app on tvOS hides all media that has been tagged as 4K video or has dvhe codec, from the screen.
The DoVi topic is quite complex and scattered, many incompatible profiles are in use. Luckily only 2 in consumer space, so far.
Only profile 5 can be played on aTV 4K.
I have no iP 12 PM (yet), so unable to comment on that side of things. Don't even know, what kind of codec and profile does it use.
