I have dealt with applications unexpectedly quitting before followed by the reporting message, but never have I had the specific file I am in "unexpectedly close," so to speak, but not have the application quit also. I have no idea what's going on, and don't know how to remedy this?

And yes, permissions have been repaired, extensively!

Preview most frequently, so the file I am reading just closes. Additionally, Finder has been doing it quite a bit. Those are really the main two offenders right now.

yeah I was going to do that, but just wanted to see if there was anything else that I might do or need to do prior to taking that step.

What does cleaning my system and user cache actually do and what does it help? More importantly, what are the side-effects of doing this, i.e., will I lose my custom preferences?
