New Mac user here looking for an application like Microsoft Publisher for laying out photos for printing. Is there a free application for the Mac available? Thanks!

Maybe I will try Aperture...

"Versatile Printing and Publishing: Offering a complete color-managed workflow — based on ColorSync — Aperture also offers a full complement of output options, letting you quickly and easily create contact sheets, printed portfolios, books, or customized prints. Print them yourself, or order professional prints and books without leaving Aperture."

Publisher is a layout application. Aperture is a pro-photo organizing and editing app. Very different.

Pages from iWork will probably do exactly what you want to do. Or, you could take a look at iPhoto (which does things like calendars, books, etc).
