The thick of it
I just got a notice through Software Update of an update available for Application Loader. I'd never heard of that before.

The 2.5.1 update is recommended for all Application Loader users and contains enhancements and general fixes including:

- Improved error messaging
- Creating and sending In-App Purchase details for apps directly from Application Loader
- Send to Apple command now creates logs for troubleshooting delivery issues
- Updated system requirements and newly supported formats
- Updated server IP addresses and port information

More detailed information on this update can be found in the Application Loader guide available at itunesconnect.apple.com.

I assume it's for the App Store. When I went to the itunesconnect link, I had to log in with my Apple ID. But the site claimed my ID was invalid.

It is an App for developers. Those that want to SELL apps not use them.
I assume you'd need a developer id and not just any.
I don't really know I don't develop apps for the plattform.

Thanks. It's curious though -- I'm not in the developers program. I'm not sure why I got this update.

Xcode. If you have Xcode installed, Application Loader's default location is in /Developer/Applications/Utilities

Well... prior to Lion, anyway. Spotlight should find it if it's in a different place on Lion.

Thanks for the info.. I didn't know what it was either, and feared some kind of hack.. I do have Xcode installed, so it makes sense..

Thanks dusk007 and codymac for clearing this up. I'm not a developer, but I also received notice of this update. Good to know what it's for!

I also received this update. I was curious about Xcode and I installed it a while back. Nice to know this is not malware.

App loader is the app that the system uses to load apps :p

I think this update may make paid app store apps harder to crack.
