Application to access email faster on dock?

I am using a older edition of the macbook pro (2009). I am looking for an application that will allow me to access my mail (hotmail) faster than to manually type on my browser. I want it to appear in my dock or on top where it shows time, battery life and connection. Is it possible? Which application do I download? Any links or responses will be greatly appreciated.
