Hello all.

I am a new Mac user. What I am looking for is advice on how to convert video on an authored DVD to an editable format that I can edit on iMovieHD or Final Cut Express (AVI or MPG).

The DVDs in question are home videos that were originally recorded on analogue camcorder tape. They were then "backed up" onto DVD using a standalone DVD Writer.

I now want to go back and edit these videos as they are untouched. So something I knew how to do on Windows I don't on the Mac. So all help would be appreciated recommending applications and / or a suitable (lossless) format.

Many thanks in advance.

When you say stanalone DVD recorder, you mean one that connects to your TV.

These use a different format to conventional DVD's and can only be copied with Yade X

Yes I do mean a DVD recorder that connects to TV and I don't want to copy. I want to convert from VOB files to an editable format for use in iMovieHD etc. So what app does that on a Mac?
