application to scan mini DV tapes for scenes

I am looking for an application which will scan Mini DV tapes in I fast-forward and will make thumbnails of each new scene. I am not looking for an application which will scan a digital file for scene changes. The goal was not to have to capture the tape onto the computer-simply to scan the tape itself and create thumbnails.

There is a Windows application called Scenalyzer which does this.

You might try iMovie 7 or 8. Although you need to acquire the video in order to view it, the "skimming" process is remarkably fast and will allow you to cut and save scenes pretty much on-the-fly. Or, if you prefer, you can delete footage on-the-fly...

In either case, you then have options like exporting XML to Final Cut Pro or transcoding via QuickTime to another app.
