Is there a preferred app in the mac community for displaying ram/cpu/hd usage and possible temps for everything? I've seen some users with screenshots of their desktops that have the usage/temp bars displayed in the toolbar at the top of the screen. Any info would help. Thanks!

The best one comes standard with every Mac- Activity Monitor, located in the Utilities folder in applications. What you see in the toolbar are apps like iStat Menus, Temperature Monitor, and/or Menumeters.

In the attached image, the temps come from temperature monitor, the other graphs are menumeters.

Try MenuMeters, it's free and does everything you have noted.

EDIT: MisterKeeks has it right.

I use Activity Monitor and smcFanControl.

You can use iStat Pro (free) or iStat Menus ($16) to get accurate readings of your temps, fan speeds, etc. A forum member has posted a copy of iStat Pro that has been "tweaked" to enhance compatibility with Mountain Lion. You can download it here.
