I'm trying to watch a DVD, and unfortunately the sound was very low when the video was recorded and when the DVD was created. That means that even with system and DVD Player volume up to maximum, I still can't hear very well.

Does anybody know of a way to dynamically alter the volume of certain applications (so that when somebody IMs me I don't get a deafening doo-woo! in my headphones) beyond the normal range of the system volume?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
