Applications continue to fail...

I am having some troubles with my Mac.

It seems like some of my applications continue to crash when I load them or when I try to modify something in the preferences.

The following continue to fail me:

Adobe Illustrator CS
Adium
Microsoft Word
WorldText (though I no longer use it, still makes me mad)

Any idea about this?

The prefs editing problem could be because of a permission failure,
so i would run disk util and fix permissions.

are you using/running any non-standard system fonts that might be being used by all of these programs? That doesn't cause as many problems in X as it did is OS 9 and previous, but still seems like it could be a culprit.

Everything is standard on my Mac. I also run the disk utility once a week.
