Applications crashing?

I have a c2d macbook with 2gb ram.

My computer has worked fine for months then all of sudden when i leave an application running, but unused, I come back to it and it is frozen and I have to restart the application. Originally it affected everything, but now about 3 weeks since it started only itunes freezes after breaks. It will work fine as long as a song is playing but if I have it paused for like 5 minutes it will need to be restarted. Any Suggestions? Thank you

It sounds like an update issue. I had a user with similar problems. I have a strong feeling that a Software Update while the applications were in use might have corrupted them.

I didn't diagnose further and simply imaged the machine.

Admirable but if core libraries are missing or corrupted it won't resolve the issue.
