Applications folder reverts to column view

For the last few weeks - maybe but not definitely since 10.4.7 update - my Applications folder randomly decides to open itself in column view. I change it back to icon view (or whatever it's called), but it seems to (often but not always) forget and re-open in column view later on in the day. Documents, Movies, etc. all remember to open in icon view.

Any suggestions how I can get it to do what I want. Is there a config-type-file somewhere to edit/delete?
