I have a MBP w/ 2 GB RAM and I have noticed that my Applications folder seems slow - when I click on it in Finder it takes a few seconds to come up. Everything else in Finder is responsive. Any ideas as to what is causing this?

Once an a while other Finder instances are slow, but the Apps folder is consistently slow.

I think this is just due to the amount of apps you have in there. Mine is also slow as I have 253 apps, but after going to it a few times it speeds up because Finder doesn't have to look through it as much.

Yeah, this is pretty typical for OS X. Not really sure why -- maybe because of the (slightly) extra work the OS has to do, making .app folders look like files and figuring out what icon they should use. But I can confirm that whether I'm using an old G4 mini or a Mac Pro, the more apps you have, the more that particular folder slows down.
