Applications Not Closing and Not Shutting Down

I have just recently installed Leopard on both my iMac G5 and my MacBook Pro. The iMac is running Leopard very well and with no problems. On the other hand, my MacBook Pro is having problems. I can start it up and run apps and such, but it seems to freeze periodically, and the main problems I are those where applications will not close, even with Force Quit, and the computer will not shut down. It has to be force shut down. If anyone has any ideas or assistance, please throw in your 2 cents, I pretty much cannot use my laptop due to this issue.
