apply TV Airplay plays non Apple Store content?

to stream airplay from Itunes on a imac to apple TV, do i need a Apple store bought video or does it work with all video and and audio on itunes? thank you

Most .m4v video that will go into iTunes, within a reasonably broad range of specifications, will play on the aTV. Either by Aiplay or by selecting the video for streaming from the aTV.
