Hi Guys,
My black macbook (mid 2008) is approaching the end of its three year warranty (never had a problem). My battery health is at a meagre 84% (2 hrs max with video), will they replace it if I ask them? Also, are there any other things you try to get for free before your laptop approaches the end of its warranty? Will they replace the plastic housing if I ask them to?

Not unless they determine it's defective in some way. Read the "BATTERIES ARE NOT COVERED" section of the following link. This should answer most, if not all, of your battery questions:

Not unless something is defective.

Warranty and AppleCare don't cover wear and tear or damage, only defects in manufacturing.
