This has been happening for the past few months. The icons have all changed to the ones you see in the picture.

Clicking on these do absolutely nothing. I've tried reinstalling these through the Mac OS disk or downloading them from the apple website and I was unable to find them or they simply didn't work.

As you can see, now System Preferences is inaccessible. I NEED this to work in order to do my job. Please help anyone.

Thank you!

In that case, I suggest opening your OS X install disk with Pacifist. Just search for and restore each of the applications you mentioned.

If that keeps happening, you may want to reinstall your OS. It's a little troubling.

Icon Problems

Rebuild the PRAM.

Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
1. Shut down the computer.
2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
3. Turn on the computer.
4. Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
5. Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
6. Release the keys.

So I've been trying to reset the PRAM AND NVRAM for the past few weeks whenever I get the chance but it's not happening. I followed the instructions carefully, step by step and I'm not hearing the startup sound a second time.

:confused:The inactive app icons problem still haunts me...
