This morning I noticed the Facebook app "cleaning" on 8.2 I haven't noticed any other apps doing this just curious what it means

Wow I have never seen that happen before. Yes, it probably has to do with cache management but I'm surprised this is even there. iOS, along with the majority of third party apps, are absolutely horrendous with managing cache. Perhaps this feature is somewhat slipping in before a major cache fix for iOS 8.3 or iOS 9?
 
I agree! I have had every iPhone since the 3GS and never seen it once. Except this morning
 
I noticed it happen for the first time on my 6+ and I thought I was crazy because I had just woken up and was checking my phone... Turns out I spot it happening all the time now when I wake up and first unlock my phone. You'll see the apps flash "cleaning..." really quick once they reach a certain threshold of space used in their allotted cache space.
 
Hmmm mine runs some of these processes daily. Looks like it likes to try to keep things tidy.
