I've got an odd and frustrating problem occurring on a G3 iBook (900mhz) running the latest version of Panther. A variety of apps including Mail, Safari, Quicktime and others crash as soon as they open and render the first email, page, or other doc type. The odd thing about this problem is that it only happens in the Administrator account, no others.

I'd appreciate any ideas....

Thanks,

Chris

There's probably a corrupt file somewhere in your admin user's Library. Try using trial and error to find it by temporarily moving things out of the Library while checking if the problem occurs.

a friend had this problem with his powerbook, turned out he'd installed a dodgy font on there!

some mal-formed windows TTF fonts can cause a mac to do this, and it generally affects Apple software (mail, safari, iChat etc)

Check fontbook for any fonts you may have installed recently. If that won't open, just go in your library folder and disable/delete/move any dodgy ones to your trash
