Apps created before I purchased my Macbook

Hi,
I purchased my Macbook two weeks ago. Works great. However I noticed after clicking 'about this mac' that many of my apps were created in 2008, many of which were last modified Nov 2008 at 422am. Some were also last modified last week when I did system updates but how can the 2008 ones be explained?Is my mac used?

Uh, yeah. They don't rewrite the software every time someone purchases a computer.

Understood. But why the two different dates? Apologies for the dumb questions.

The dates refer to the last date modified. Thus... most of it hasn't been modified since last year.
