apps dont respond/work

ok so i HATE this

i have a mbp

i have 10.5.2 btw

apps dont close! my itnues doesnt work.. (wont open) (7.6.2)
some apps dont open...
software update just loads w/o showing anything
activity monitor just bounces wont open
most apps wont close after i open..
word closed but it still has the dot underneath it on the dock and it says app not responding...

WTF HAS HAPPENED TO MY ONCE GLORIOUS LAPTOP???

Sounds whack... Backup and reinstall? lol

I hate to be the one to say that, but when things get that bad, that's usually when I reinstall. It has never happened to me in OSX, though.

What were you doing or what did you do before this suddenly started happening?

NOT erase.

First things first.
Restart the machine
Open the Applications: Utilities: Disk Utility and do a Repair Permissions on your drive.

Then test. Does it still happen?
