Apps folder as a stack

i read a few weeks ago on how to do it on the board but i cant find the post can someone please tell me how to make my apps folder as a stack in the dock?

Drag it from the Finder to the right hand side of the dock.

Drag the actual Applications folder (in 'Mactintosh HD' or whatever your drive is called) rather than the side bar link.

It should then 'just work'

thats where i was going wrong dragging from the side bar!
