For the past 3 weeks to a month or so, I've noticed that my previously stable and responsive late 2012 iMac will lock up and give me a spinning beach ball for several seconds, seemingly no matter what I'm doing - web browsing, etc. I've noticed it more on games, because the screen will freeze and be non-responsive for 10-20 seconds, and then begin again. 5 minutes later (ballpark), it will do it again.
I've restarted my Mac, run disk utility several times, run ClamXav on both my system and my user ID. I've turned off my router, turned off my modem (have RR broadband). Other devices on the network seem to be unaffected.
The only thing I haven't done yet, is to start deleting and re-installing games, apps and OSX, just because I'm hoping to be able to resolve this with less disruptive measures. At times, I've been inclined to think Steam was the culprit, because I noticed the problem first while playing Left4Dead 2. It also does it on CSGO, Borderlands, all in Steam. However, Deus Ex: Human Revolution does it and I got that from the MAS.
Has anyone else had similar problems, or suggestions for how to resolve it? I was hoping that the last Mavericks update from yesterday would have solved it, but no.
