iPod touch Apps gone from touch

I recently had my ipod touch synced to my laptop which just crashed. So the past days I've been buying apps directly from the ipod. So I decided to go and sync it with our new imac. I then authrorize it with the imac, and it beings to "back up". When it was "backing up" I noticed on the top of the itunes page that it was removing apps...and by the end of it doing what it needed to do and unplug my ipod...it had removed almost all of my apps! I have no idea why it would of done this. (the apps I got form the App store were gone)any one have any help/ideas? Thanks =]
