So I wanted to free up some space on my computer and have a ton of ipad apps on it taking up space. So i deleted them off the computer then when i plugged my ipad in it said i had to transfer the apps back to the computer or else they would be deleted from the ipad. So i really have to have all these huge ipad apps taking up space on the computer just to keep them on the ipad? or is there an easy way for this not to happen? thanks.

You can remove them from iTunes, but you will have to prevent your idevice from syncing apps.
In iTunes, with your idevice connected, click on the device, then the Apps tab, and then untick the Sync Apps option at the top.

If you delete/lose the apps from your idevice, you will have to re-download them from the apps store.

You could store the apps (and all other iTunes media) on an external drive, and then change the media folder location in iTunes, but that is a whole other subject.
