A number of apps will not open, like calendar, reminders, pages, contacts, preview, add App Store. I tried opening them in fined did not work. I also opened in safe mode and they did not open.

I am running maverick on my imac.

Try a command-r boot into recovery and from there use Disk Utility to run a repair disk. Does that show any disk errors?

The disk repair did not fined anything wrong.

Try making a new temp account and login to that and see if the issue persists. This will eliminate anything specific to your account causing this.

Have you installed any new software lately that may have caused this?

Does it also happen in another, even temporarily created, user account?

And since when does that happen? Done something lately? Do you have a backup from before that? Can you reinstall the OS?

I was so hoping but NO luck again.

Hmmm... is it the same apps all the time what will not open, or is some apps one time then others the next reboot.

Try this. Open the Console app and leave it open at the side of the screen, then try to launch an app. Look in Console for any error messages at that date/time that might be helpful.

Does your iMac seem to boot normally and as fast as before this?

It's the same apps, the last update was flash not long ago.

How can I reinstall ?

It boots fine and it's just as fast
