I have a lot of apps that open at login and work in the background. If you saw my menu bar, you would be astonished. For that reason, I always buy a computer with 64GB of RAM to handle the memory issues (though I usually don't use more than half that RAM).

Can you help me understand how apps work in the background?

Any app I want to constantly run, I tell it to open at login when it prompts me to do so. I don't do anything in settings.

However, when I reboot my computer, I have a half dozen or more of these apps opening at login and I have to close their windows.

For any app designed to work in the background, is there a way to have it do that without opening itself up at login?

Thank You in advance
